About the CMU Ballroom Dance Club

People — Our club's members range from those with two left feet (and sometimes more) to veteran dancers with years of experience.  We welcome anyone interested in learning and having fun, including Pittsburgh area undergraduate students, graduate students, and professionals.  If you don't have a partner, no worries!  We welcome singles and couples.

Dances — We base our lessons on the International Latin (Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, Paso Doble, Jive) and Standard (Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Viennese Waltz) dances, but we also teach social dances like Salsa, Hustle, Zouk, Bachata, and Swing.  We start by teaching the basics, so if you have ever wanted to learn to dance... we are the place to start!

Classes — We offer two types of classes: Beginner and Professional. Beginner lessons are taught every week, on Mondays and Wednesdays, and are a great place to start learning basic steps, timing, and moves for a whole assortment of dances! Click here to learn more! For those who want a little more in-depth knowledge, technique, and complicated figures, we offer professional lessons. Social Events — In addition to the social dancing during our weekly lessons, we also hold themed social dances several times throughout the year and everyone is welcome! A variety of music plays throughout the night. It’s a great way to get to know the club members and dance the night away. We also have social gatherings in and around the greater Pittsburgh area to promote club and team bonding!

Competition Team — The competition team is a great chance to push yourself to the next level, and to dance with a group of talented and highly motivated people.  Expert dancers and novices welcome - competitions have levels ranging from Newcomer to Champ, and you register for the dances you want to perform.
